[1] Make sure that the Water Temperature is right for Bathing Cat.

The water should be luke-warm when going to bathe cat, more on the room-temperature side, because if you place hot water on your cat, it will get burned.
Cold water is always a better solution for bathing cats or kittens. Cats don’t mind the cold. Unlike myself.

Yet water should not be tooo cold when bathing a cat-  you know what I mean – not so freezing cold that your poor cat shakes and its teeth chatter… Just pleasantly luke-warm, like for a baby bath.

[2] What Should You Bathe Cat In?

Choose a shallow bathing tub that your cat can easily stand in. Deep buckets might cause cats to panic and feel as though they’re stuck in a narrow clastrophobic well.

Best would be a shallow plastic container or a small laundry bucket, that is safe for cats and not slippery.

We plot on introducing our cats to water in a gradual way and not throw them into a 6 foot/2m pool and have them get a heart attack from fright.

Place a towel around the dish so that your cat can stand on it afterwards and get dry. Also the towel aroung the cat bath will prevent your house from drowning under water. ;-D

You can also use a rubber mat for the bath bottom, so the cat won’t slip, but it isn’t a ” must have “.

If it’s a slippery tray, then the rubber mat is advisable, but if it is a plastic dish, then you don’t need to worry about it. Anyway, it’s a shallow cat bath so there is no risk.

[3] How Deep Should The Cat Bath Waters Be?

Start bathing your cat with just enough water to be above cats  feet.

For the time bathing kittens or washing cats, just place your cat in the tub and let cat play around in there. Cats will get used to the bath and reckon it is fun.

Tips For Playing With Your Cat In The Tub:

If you play with your cat inside the cats bath with a string, or with some other toy  your cat will delight in bathing and want to get in there again.

Make it the place where you play with your cat with a certain item (like a mouse on a string or some kind of “cat bathing” toy.) you only use in bath. Your cat will be glad to jump in there and want to play with you.

Another cat bathing motivator is giving your cat a few yummy cat treats when he baths.

Next Stages Of Cat In The Tub

Don’t worry if your cat makes a mess. The towels  you places around the bath tub will mop up most of it.

Gradually you can start to increase the depth of the water.

I could tell she was startled when a group of five people barreled into the house. Abby’s first response was to dive under the dining room table. The children proceeded to try to yank her out from under the table. I could tell she was frightened. From under the table I could hear her hissing. A low rumbling growl which I had never heard before was coming from the pit of her stomach. The children kept poking and prodding her even though to me it was obvious she was distressed. They kept waving their hands in front of her face and then pulling them away. To make matters worse, they had also brought one of her littermates, who she now seemed to consider a weirder.

In a panic, I rushed to open a sliding glass door so Abby could jump through before the two cats could square off against each other. I remember thinking that this whole experience was so abrupt and traumatizing for Abby that I couldn’t blame her when the claws came out. Yet I’m sure from the looks on the faces of my guests that day, that they blamed me and my cat for their claw marks. They assumed Abby was worried of or didn’t like children. I didn’t reckon that was the issue, it was their sudden entrance which had startled both of us. There are some cats that are worried of children, but I reckon most pets respond well to acclimatization. You can expose your cat to young children, like I did. Just wait a while before you let them loose around your cat. Sit the child next to you and feed your kitty treats, then gradually let the child take over. Do this for small stretches over several sessions. This worked well for me. Abby is now comfortable around the neighborhood children. I’m greatful that Abby was able to get used to being around children, but I could detect that at times she would get jealous of the attention the children received, and would proceed to jump between us. Some cats do get jealous of certain people. Some cats start acting out and being mean to certain people too.

If this situation persists, the only thing to do is remove the cat from the situation. When your cat starts growling or clawing, pick her up and take her to the bathroom until your guest is gone. You may also advise your guest that if they are also a pet owner, your cat may be responding to the scent on the person’s clothes. The worst thing is when your cat consistently claws a family member. If it’s a family member, try a commercially available cat repellant or lemon juice to keep the cat away, then acclimatization to get them used to the other person. If all this fails, you may be forced to consider declawing your pet. Remember that when your pet acts out, there is usually a reason for it. When animals are frightened, the go into defense mode. In these situations, we can often forgive their clawing mistakes. To avoid cat clawing catastrophies, try the steps outlined above. Small doses of exposure to people will usually cure your cat of its’ clawing outbursts. Then again, cats like people, can be finicky with their affections. If you have tried and tried for instance, to get your cat used to your mother in law, but to no avail, what can you do? How can you blame kitty for not liking her? After all, if the truth be known, it’s not like you like her that much either.

Well, the experience I am going to share with you, is so unique regarding Cat Care, tips and real guidelines, I can assure you, you have never heard from anyone, read in any article, book, etc. One of the reasons, as I mention in many of my Pet care articles, is because, I live in a very unique location, Northern Thailand, subject to every or any imaginable critter out there since Im surrounded by Jungle. So, I wanted to share a special experience with my cat. This of course is a Thai cat, and they certainly do have a very different character from other cats stateside. Not to be confused with a Siamese type cat, this was just a stray domestic cat, its mom chose to give birth under my patio, and leave it alone to survive, and boy did this cat survive. In fact, this was the smartest cat I have ever experienced. It started about 3:00am, I woke up early , as usual. One might reckon this is a peaceful silent environment, but on the contrary , the local roosters start at 1:00am, screech owls, all thru the night, and other fascinating jungle noises, many I am not even sure what they are. Up at 3:00am I heard a silent, meow, meow noise outside. That got my attention, now what I question.

Walking outside at night is one of those things you really need to be careful, and have a super flashlight. That is tip number one. So right around the corner is a baby kitten, just had its eyes open, and had climbed up a tree, about 60 feet high. When I called it, she came down, and right to me. Now that was a huge surprise, no pet owner could ever so no to this, so setup an area in the house, here comes the milk, and a can of tuna, which vanished in minutes, and then she slept for the entire next day. Sounds like a nice tale, but really only the beginning, as I joke with friends, the cat from hell and back. Many days, weeks had past, She really grew quick, probably the extra rich food, and chasing Geckos in the house. Yes, they are all around, but keep the flying critter population way down, so it was a win situation living in the tropics.

Tip number two, I realized over a few weeks, she tended to take over the house, not only was she a night hunter, all Geckos vanished, many pictures, vases, glasses, tended to break and she loved climbing curtains, and screens. So I had to make the choice, indoor, or outdoor. I finished up making her an outdoor cat. But that was never excellent enough, since she knew how comfortable inside was. Well overtime, she seemed ok, until one morning I found her resting in the shade. I noticed her right paw was swollen. After talking to the locals, we concluded she had been bitten by a very poisonous snake. For example, 60 Thailand, 12 in Africa, so they are out there, especially at night. I brought her back in the house, and over a few weeks, back to health. But what next, inside or out. I chose she really belonged outside, the cat hair alone was hard for me with allergy problems. Well another week went by, she was doing fine, and then again, her right paw was swollen. A giant black bee, stung her. I believe she was playing with both. So back in the house, a few weeks later recovered fine. Well, I travel at times, and this just wasnt going to workout, very time consuming. Nobody seemed to want a cat. But my neighbors thought the Temple , a few miles away, where the monks take care of pets. This seemed OK after talking with the local monk. About two months later, 3:00am, I hear a meow, meow outside, way up in a tree. Yep, there she was, traveled all the way back, dog bite on one leg, and was she very upset. So, back to recovery again, cleaned her up, a few weeks went by, but just to much to handle. Tip number three, pet responsibility. Never take on a new pet unless you can truly take care of it . In this case though, there are no vets., animal hospitals, or animal shelters. Simply place, a challenge. I talked with neighbors again, and they couldnt believe what had happened, how could it have possibly traveled all that way with dogs, jungle, etc. Now you do hear these tales sometimes, about dogs getting separated from families traveling and finding their way back over a thousand miles, but a cat was hard to imagine. Now Thai people are strong believers in spirits, with all do respect, so they were starting to have some fascinating thoughts about this cat, let your imagination figure that one. We drove 15 miles away to a very well known Temple, spoke with a very high level monk, and he suggested best if they took care of her, especially since many foreign tourists pass through, which sounded reasonable. But two months went by, I thought it was a terrible dream, but 3:00am , there was that cat sound outside, up the tree. At this point , I went from pleased to shock in less than 1 minute, and immediately needed a serious plot, as the cat from hell had returned, what are the locals going to reckon, Ive been cursed ? Well, something close to that. Then something occurred to me, my mother in law, was all alone in her own house, miles away. This was the only cat that would sit on her lap, and talk with her, she couldnt believe how smart it was, so there was a pleased ending, they both get along fantastic, we supply the food, shots, all healthy requirements, etc. But there was certainly a lesson to be learned from this experience. In small, I mentioned a few tips along the way, which I hope from this unusual experience help as guidelines when considering a cat for a pet. Its excellent to know the history of the parents as well when possible. But last, its also really about responsibility. I felt very uncomfortable, knowing how she traveled so far to return to where she remembered as home. She is healthy now. In the title I did mention Cat with 10 lives. Well, it is hard to imagine, but there were many other life threatening events for her, and we believe she has in fact used all 9 lives already, and still healthy. In excellent hands, and with a bit of luck, she should live a very long pleased life.
